Troubleshoot Workbench

“The internet is slow.” “The system won’t connect.” Find out why in minutes — run tests from our cloud, your site or your server, and get the results as plain‑language findings. Our engineers use it every day, and your own IT team can too.

Everything needed to find the cause

Results explained in plain language

Each test gives the raw numbers and what they mean — for example, “loss starts at hop 4, inside the ISP’s network” — so the next step is clear.

Connectivity tests

Ping, path, DNS, port and web tests that show where trouble starts.

cloud · site · server

Certificates & VPN paths

Certificate health and the hidden causes of VPN problems.

cloud · site · server

Speed & settings

Throughput and network settings, tested from your site.

site · server

Packet capture & analysis

Capture traffic and get the findings in plain language.

site · server · device

Device diagnostics

Read‑only checks and health tests on firewalls, routers and switches.

network device

Two ways to use it

We run it, or your team does

Included in every plan

We run it for you

NetCore engineers use the workbench to diagnose your problems. The findings are kept with your ticket, and we tell you what was wrong and how it was fixed.

Where a test runs decides what it sees

Cloud · site · server · device
  1. 1

    From the NetCore cloud

Tests your internet‑facing side the way the outside world sees it: websites, VPN gateways, mail servers and open ports.

  2. 2

    From your site collector

Tests from inside your office network — the view your staff have — without anyone needing to be on site.

  3. 3

    From a server

Through the NetCore agent on Windows or Linux servers — for problems between a server and the systems it talks to.

  4. 4

    On the device itself

Read‑only commands, SNMP and packet capture on the firewall, router or switch, using its stored credentials through your site collector.

Packet captures, explained

No Wireshark expertise needed

Packet captures hold the answer to the hardest problems — but they are slow to read. The workbench reads them for you, in the spirit of Wireshark’s expert analysis, and lists what’s wrong:

  • What’s talking to what, and how much
  • Whether a slow system is the network or the application
  • Errors and problems, ranked most serious first

Network analysis from your configurations

Answers before anything is changed

Configuration findings

Errors and risky rules found in your device configurations.

Can this reach that?

See whether traffic gets through — and which rule decides.

Segmentation & change impact

Check that sensitive networks stay separated, and what a change will do before it’s made.

Safeguards

Powerful tools, tightly controlled

Authorised people only

Only the engineers you authorise — yours and NetCore’s — can run tests, and only for the organisation and sites they look after.

Every run recorded

Who ran what, from where, against which target and with what result — kept per client, and in the audit log.

Captures handled carefully

Downloads are audited, sizes and durations are capped, and captures are deleted automatically after 14 days.

Findings go to the ticket

Results can be added to the ticket as an engineer’s note in one click, so the fix and the evidence stay together.

Frequently asked questions

Who can use the Troubleshoot Workbench?

NetCore’s engineers use it for every client we support. Your own IT or network team can use it too, with an add‑on licence — on NetCore Ops Hosted, Dedicated or On‑Premises.

Is it included in our plan?

When NetCore’s engineers use it to fix your problems, yes — on every plan, at no extra charge. Access for your own team is an add‑on, priced by the number of sites and engineers — ask us for a quote.

Do we need NetCore Ops to use it?

Yes — the workbench is part of NetCore Ops and runs tests through its site collectors and server agents. If you don’t use NetCore Ops yet, we’ll set it up as part of your licence.

Do you need to visit our site to run tests?

Usually not. Tests run from the site collector or the server agent already installed at your site, so we can see what your staff see from wherever our engineers are.

Are packet captures safe?

Captures can contain sensitive data, so only authorised engineers can take or download them, every download is logged, and captures are deleted automatically after 14 days.

See it on a real problem

Bring us a problem you’re living with — a slow system, a dropping VPN, a link that “works sometimes” — and we’ll show you how the workbench finds the cause.
